A unit of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), NIASCAIR is an institute capable of serving the society using modern IT infrastructure in a more effective manner and taking up new ventures in the field of science communication. Broadly the core activity of NISCAIR will be to collect/store, publish and disseminate S&T information through a mix of traditional and modern means, which will benefit different segments of society.
Indian Science Communication Society is a voluntary and non-governmental organisation established in 1994 by a group of self motivated professionals. Science writers and Scientists driven by the visionary zeal and passions to popularize science and scientific temper among the Indian masses through Science Journalism and Science communication, and position the subject as an area of serious scholarly endeavor.
A Unit of DST India, The NCSTC focuses on outreach activities, training and research in Science and Technology communication, development, production & dissemination of S&T software, incentive programmes, field based Sci-Com projects, international co-operation, motivating students and teachers, environmental awareness, programmes with a special component exclusively for women and Communicating science using folk media.
Vigyan Prasar is another independent autonomous organization which was set up in 1989 by the efforts of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India with the objective of “promote scientific and rational outlook”. It is the most active and fully dedicated organization among all the organizations working in the field of Science Communication, which is also working towards sustainable development of the country by collaborating with various institutions, schools, universities and museums. Through various activities like outreach programs, exhibitions, book fairs, science festivals, workshops and campaigns organization is engaged in connecting science with society. In addition to the various popular books it has published and activity kits for both adults and children, Vigyan Prasar also publishes a monthly newsletter in Hindi and English languages named Dream 2047.
India Bioscience is a program running in National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore which is funded by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India and also by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance. To enable the networking of life science professionals across India and abroad, to increase the visibility of Indian scientific research and to reduce the gap between the science and society especially in the domain of life sciences, India Bioscience used to organize various meetings, seminars, conferences and workshops on different themes throughout the year.
National Council of Science Museums or NCSM was established under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India on April 4, 1978 with the aim to make science accessible to every person living in every nook and corner of the country. To make science communication effective all over the country, it took initiative to build national level science museums/centres, Regional Science Centres and District Science Centres and today it is handling 25 science centres/museums spread all over the India. NCSM devised the world’s largest network of science centres and museums under single administrative umbrella. In addition, NCSM develops Science Virtual Galleries and Innovation Hubs to nurture the skills and new ideas of the younger generation and help to popularize the latest innovations among the masses.
National Centre for Science Communicators or NCSC was established in 1997 with the objective of making the directory of governmental or non-governmental organizations engaged in science communication and all the emerging science communicators across the country. The organisation helps to overcome the difficulties and issues in science communication through meetings, seminars and debates.
