Major Dhyan Chand was a legend in Indian and international hockey. His contributions won gold medals in hockey in the Olympics for India (1928, 1932 and 1936). In a career spanning between 1926-1949, it is reported that he scored 570 goals. One of the most coveted and the highest award for lifetime achievement in sports and games in India is named after him, Major Dhyan Chand Award.
