Kindness: A Global Movement.

Being kind is a trait every human being must imbibe. Even a small gesture of kindness brings satisfaction and enhances the mood. As one expects kindness from others, everyone must be kind. Every year, “World Kindness Day” is observed on November 13. There is a strong correlation between kindness and mental health. One big part of self-compassion is being kind to us when encountering difficulties. We can show more understanding and concern for ourselves, just as we might if we wanted to help a friend. The pursuit of success and happiness all starts with kindness. As Confucius said, “Act with kindness, but do not expect gratitude.”Â
Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.
Mother Teresa
Being kind is a trait every human being must imbibe. Even a small gesture of kindness brings satisfaction and enhances the mood. As one expects kindness from others, everyone must be kind. The World Kindness Movement’s efforts led to “World Kindness Day” on November 13, being observed since 1998. Singapore, India, and Italy are the countries that observe this first. It has set a platform to reach people with kindness, transcending race, religion, gender, and geographical boundaries. Its mission is to create kinder societies. Choosing empathy over hatred will lead to a more just and peaceful world. The goal is to make kindness a way of life and be the change one wishes to see.
Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear, and the blind can see.
Mark Twain
There is a strong correlation between kindness and mental health. Acts of kindness significantly reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. When the world is seeing an increase in mental health challenges, one tool that is accessible to everyone is kindness. It promotes emotional resilience. Cognitive researchers say that acts of kindness contribute to enhanced well-being, increased self-esteem, empathy, compassion, and an overall improvement in mood. Doctors say that acts of kindness trigger the release of endorphins, contributing to a sense of joy and fulfilment. Emotional warmth releases the hormone oxytocin, lowering one’s blood pressure. Being kind can increase levels of serotonin and dopamine, neurotransmitters that boost mood and feelings of satisfaction. Â
The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.
Oscar Wilde
One big part of self-compassion is being kind when encountering difficulties – rather than putting ourselves down and criticising ourselves internally. We can show more understanding and concern for ourselves, just as we might if we wanted to help a friend.
The potential for spreading kindness has increased in the era of social media and an increasingly connected world. The urge to share has a component of kindness and inspiring others. The pursuit of success and happiness all starts with kindness. As Confucius said, “Act with kindness, but do not expect gratitude.”
