The day aims to honour Hindi as a symbol of unity, cultural heritage, and Indian identity. As India’s national language, Hindi is vital in connecting various communities nationwide. The Hindi language is significantly influenced by Sanskrit, which has enriched its literary tradition. The origin of Hindi is traced to the Indo-Aryan languages. Hindi is closely related to Urdu, as both languages have the same linguistic roots. Over the centuries, the influence of Persian, Turkish, and Arabic has been seen in Hindi.
The Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, established in 1918 by Mahatma Gandhi, is doing yeoman service by providing opportunities to learn Hindi among the non-Hindi-speaking population in the South. Established by Mahatma Gandhi. Annie Besant inaugurated its headquarters in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu, the state which has seen anti-Hindi agitation, has steadily increased the number of people learning Hindi over the years. Thanks to the efforts of Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha. The number of students who voluntarily learn Hindi rose by over 50% in a decade.
With people moving from different parts of the country searching for jobs and providing services, including southern states, one tends to listen to Hindi in many places. World Hindi Day is to celebrate the rich heritage of the language, and since it is spoken by the third largest number of people in the world, all the efforts to be taken to ensure Hindi gets the coveted place in the world of languages.
